Mike and Spike

I am certainly not a “Spike”. I am rather small, thin, and most people think they can beat me up just by thinking about it. But one day I came to work with my hair spiked up in a ridge down the middle of my head. It was one of those costume dress up days. I had totally forgot to do anything, so I spiked my hair with water and turned up my collar. People started calling me “Spike” and it has took on a life of its own. No one seems to know my real name any more. It is probably a good thing too because my parents gave me a name that does not really impress people. Now when I walk down the street people that I have never call me spike. My kids friends call me spike. My life partner even call me “spikey”. She saves calling me my real name when she is mad at me.

People treat me like I am the head of a gang that no one messes around with.

I am actually head of the recreation lab that is highly classified. So highly classified in fact, that you would think that we were making defense weapons for the army. We are actually making a person. If the voting public actually found out what we were doing they might be very upset. The funding for this project has come from the military. It is labeled as a top secret project. If we do not succeed very few people will know about it. If we do succeed again very few people will know about it. People in general will only know about this project if we only partially succeed. If we actually accomplish our goal the devices and science that we develop will be too useful for the high commanders for people to know about. On the other hand

As head of the lab I am sure we will or should I say have already partially accomplished our goals.

Our task is to make John a solder that died in the war. I am not saying making someone that looks like John did with his personality, memories. I am actually talking about recreating the same consciousness that stopped – died those many years ago. He will experience dying and then being alive again. To him he will still be in the past. No time will have past for him. For him one moment he will be in the war and the next he will be experiencing being in our lab.

Some might say we should not play god. But why not if god did not want us to do this he would not have given us this ability. Maybe he actually wants us to do this. This might be a bad analogy comparing myself with a terrorist but, terrorists say that they kill people for gods sake. Well I am creating people this way for gods sake too. After saying this I really do not believe in god at least not any religious versions of god. They are too simplistic, illogical and contradictory.

Our first task was to create devices that could put matter together in a very complex and exact way. The second problem was to know how a particular body is structured at each point in a person life there is an exact structure that they have and then they continue to change or functioning over time. So, you have to both know the structure and how the body will be changing over time.

If we can figure this out it means immortality for the generals and important politicians. We will never exactly figure it out but we will keep making progress.

There is the knowledge problem and the decision problem to deal with. The decision problem is deciding what versions of you you want recreated. The knowledge problem is knowing the structure and functioning you want to create when you do not have a exact copy in front of you.
