Amnesia argument

The Amnesia argument is an argument showing that memories tying a person to a previous life are not necessary for survival, life after death, or immortality. If it is true that you have to be tied to past memories of experiences had by a person, to be a continuation of that person, then when a person would get amnesia [1] he would no longer be a continuation of that person. But since he is still a person he must either be a continuation of someone else or a brand new person. But since he is not tied to someone else's experiences because he has lost his memories, he must be a new person. So is the way to make a brand new person is give them amnesia? This does not seem likely. Consequently, you do not have to have memories of past experiences in your life to have the same ixperiencitness as your previous life.
The next problem is that if the person with total amnesia is not a continuation of the same person what happens when the person regains his memory? Is he now the original person again or someone else?
The usual reply to the amnesia argument is that you do not usually loose all your memories when you have amnesia. It does not matter because you only need a few cases of total amnesia to show the problems with linking the self to specific memories rather than the ixperiencitness concept.
It has been shown that most of our memories about our past experiences we no longer have. And the ones that we do have are very different from the real experiences that did happen to us. Since this small set memories based on real experiences could tie us to many different awarepaths produced by many different bodies, we could be tied to any number of past people.
The science of superimmortality makes several predictions concerning amnesia and memories.
- The ixperiencitness that a person has is not directly connected to one specific set of memories. This mean that many different physapaths can have/ produce the same ixperiencitness.
- Total amnesia does not destroy the ability of a person to be conscious or have an ixperiencitness.
- Many different memories can be restored to a person with amnesia that they either did or did not experience by creating the corresponding physapath that produce these memories. Many of these physapaths can continue to produce the same ixperiencitness.
