Singularity bias

From Aware Theory

The singularity bias is that we do not have the terminology to think of ourselves as multiple. Because our consciousness is full of experiences about the body we think that what we are is actually a body rather than the ideas that the body produces what we really are and this is consciousness. Your body can exist but if it does not produce a consciousness that you experience you do not exist. It is a necessity for your existence that you experience being consciousness. If I would have used the term "personal existence" in the previous sentence rather than just "existence" the "singularity bias" would have snuck into the discussion. This is because the word personal comes from the word to person, which is about the body, which is a singular concept. Personal is a word that denotes a singular concept. When we use the phrase "personal identity" in the study of life after death or immortality, we have already biased our opinion about what we are to a singular perspective.
