Single split experiments with correct communication

If a human brain is split in half that is functioning normally and the two halves as stimulated by each other as if they were still connected (by what ever means possible and necessary), would it still produce the same consciousness? How and why would it be different? If the functioning of both halves is identical at a close distance would it continue to be as we increase the distance between the two brain halves.
