Cryogenics
More actions
Cryogenics takes the false view that you are necessary tied to a specific body. Consequently, they try to keep the body intact as long as possible by freezing it because freezing keeps the body from changing very much over time. People that believe in cryogenics as a way to produce life after death have the hope that someday the body can be revised and the person can come to life again. This is life after death but is not a form of immortality because your fate is still tied to your body.
Cryogenics is based on a singular finite view of immortality giving it very limited possibilities for life after death.
One problem with cryogenics is that freezing destroys cell integrity thus changing the structure of the brain. When you change the structure of the brain you will change the functioning of the brain. The resulting functioning can be a consciousness that no one want to experience because it is so painful or crazy. More likely there will be no functioning in the brain due to all of the destroyed neurons. To make a person that has been frozen come back to life each ruptured cell will have to be individually fixed. To produce the same consciousness the cells in the body, especially in the brain need to function like they did before. The rupturing process due to the expansion of ice in the cells will misalign or disconnect synapses producing a very different functioning of the brain. If this functioning is not one of the ones that the original himself will experience you have not made the original come back to life but someone else with a different ixperiencitness. Do you want someone else to come to life in your died body?
It seems like a better use of the money to scientifically study how your brain works in the first place so that eventually enhanced versions of you can be produced in the future. Versions of you that can be happier, healthier, more productive, and more conscious but nonetheless with your ixperiencitness meaning that you actually experience this particular consciousness just like you are experiencing your life right now.
One advantage of cryogenics is that it gives scientists a number of bodies to experiment with in the future.
Since cryogenic scientists will have to get the structure and functioning of the dead body right to produce the desired consciousness, it is much more likely to get the correct consciousness produced in an awarepaducer or by a videntireplica.
