Simplicity argument for principle 1a --- Identical structures and functionings of matter produce identical behaviors.
If identical structures and functionings of matter do not produce identical behaviors then there must be at least one case where there is a different behavior produced when identical structure and functioing occurs. When one outcome is replaced by two possible outcomes it becomes more complicated. But the situation can become much more complex if for every structure and functioning of matter there are two different behavior produced. Of course there could be any number of behaviors per each physapaths
Analogy to an experiment: Imagine duplicating all of the effecting conditions of an experiment and the outcome is different in each experiment
Usefulness argument for principle 1a When one structure and functioning of matter produces one behavior it is useful. But if each one produce two or more behaviors then you can never know what you are going to get in terms of behavior. Imagine if TVs with the same structure and functioning could produce any sequence of TV show or static. TVs would be useless. First you would have to find or wait for a TV show you liked, and then hope that it did not turn into static or a different TV show a few moments later.
Explainability argument for principle 1a It is easy to explain how one structure and functioning of matter produces one specific behavior. Is is much harder to explain how it can produce two or more different behaviors
Understandability argument for principle 1a It is hard to think up reasons why a particular structure and functioning of matter would produce more than one behavior outcome. If two identical TVs were functioning identically what reason would there be for one to be producing a different TV show or just static. Your theory might include that one is posses with a tv disrupting demon. A scientist would look for some physical difference like the antenna was not connected or the tv was tuned to different channel. But if either were the case then there would be a difference in the functioning of the two TVs not a supernatural cause.
Predictability argument for principle 1a when there is no reason why there are two results to each identical case then predictability diminishes. If you can not explain something it is hard to accurate predict it
Coherence of with science argument for principle 1a When a theory, prediction, explanation, has to rely on supernatural objects, processes and concepts it has lost coherence with science. Imagine that if you had to explain the behavior of electronic devices with concepts like little conscious ghost like creatures that can not be seen or detected in any way. you would not know what you would get when you created each electronic circuit. Science would predict a process would produce a radio and supernatural would make these prediction wrong.
Coherence argument for principle 1a--- Principle 1a is internally coherent because it does not contradict itself or break any laws of logic or principles of science
