Religion as to simple of a theory to explain reality

One of the biggest problems with religions is that the theories that they propose are too simple. If you compare any science with any religion the religion is much more simple and explains almost nothing compared to science. Mythology that at one time was considered to be a religion or at least parts of belief systems, is now considered by most people to be a bunch of fictional stories. If mythology was a science it would be the science of the gods. It would be like the science of ornithology or the science of the study of birds. The scientist would be studying the DNA of the god, their, life styles, their abilities, their intelligence, their environment, their ancestry, their mating habits, who they can interbreed with, how they evolved like did they evolve from the ancestors of apes like man did or did they evolve from other species. Scientists can think up all sorts of questions about the gods of mythology. Why was the gods of mythology created or proposed? There are several major reasons. People want explanations for the events in their lives like earthquakes, diseases, storms, deaths, accidents, victories and defeats etc. They also want entertainment most people back then could not read or have TVs or movies for entertainment so they told as interesting stories as they could imagine. When bad or good things happen people want to know what they did right or wrong so that they can repeat or avoid the good or bad behavior. The capricious nature of gods gives information, entertainment, and relieves the guilt of doing something bad. For instance, it was not your fault, it was the gods fighting (over females) that produced the lighting that caused the fire that killed your family. This explanation, provided information, entertainment, and guilt relief. To this day people often still use god as an explanation for the cause of natural events. Today with the scientific knowledge that we have an explanation for a natural event can be long and complicated.

People want simplicity for answers. But simplicity does not make modern computers, cell phones, cars, planes, complex molecules, genetically engineered life forms, etc. Religions try to explain reality with simple answers that in fact explain very little if anything. Religions are simple, too simple to explain reality and since god is supposed to have created reality he should be much more complex than the reality that the creates. It is a case of the watch and the watch maker. The watch maker has to be much more complex than the watch that he creates. So the creator of the universe has to be much more complex than the universe that he creates. Science has found the universe to be very complicated so the god or gods that created the universe must be much more complex than that. But religions that are supposed to know about gods are very simple relatively to how they should be. Religions should tell us every thing about gods or at least try. That should be their goal and purpose. Religions are supposed to tell us how to behave to/for god so that he will show as much favor on/to us humans as possible.. The problem is that each religion or religious belief system has it own set of rules to live by. However, they do not seem to work very well and the religions contradict each other. It is like having a thousand ways to make a TV and none of them work as a TV or are useful for anything else. It is like the emperor's new clothes story where the emperor wants the most beautiful clothes possible but is lead to believe that he is wearing them when in fact he is naked. No one is willing to contradict the emperor belief. Except a questioning child. Questioning is the beginning of the process that develops useful knowledge. Questioning is the beginning of the scientific process. Questioning a religion or religious beliefs is discouraged especially in areas of the religion that are incoherent, contradictory, irrational, illogical or just plan contradictory to scientific knowledge. A frequent response by believers in a religion that should know is "Gods purpose is hidden to us!" But why? If god has nothing to hide then why should he hide anything from us. It seems that evil has something to hide not the good. If religions are trying to hide knowledge or discourage the pursuit of knowledge then that puts them on the side of evil.
