Life after death for skeptics

Life after death for skeptics

As a general rule skeptics do not believe in life after death. Other names for skeptics are secular humanists, atheists, or agnostics. God is involved because it is believed necessary to have a god to do the required process of making a person alive again after death. If you do not believe in god that is just another good reason not to believe in life after death. Some times the act of not believing in life after death is used as a badge or courage, and membership for skeptics.

The skeptic is a person that is skeptical of ideas that there is little scientific proof in support of, such as alien UFO's, supernatural, and paranormal ideas, souls, sprits, ghosts, gods, religions, life after death, and immortality.

The skeptic is very astute in realizing that there are very few valid scientific examples of people coming back to life after death. The best cases are where the patients drowned in very cold water and are revived after ten's of minutes.

The skeptic has a lot to benefit from an actual scientific theory of life after death. The skeptic can never expect to have much of a following if they cannot compete with religions' promise of immortality. A scientific theory of immortality would be much more powerful than any religious theory of immortality. What is it that the skeptic want to accomplish in the first place? Does he really want to be opposed to life after death if it is scientifically based?

Here is the very short version of life after death based on science. Most philosophical systems of investigating life after death are based on determining what is the same person over time. They have had little success. They go back and forth over deciding if it is the body or is it the consciousness that is important. Actually it is neither one. Religions have proposed concepts like souls and spirits. There is no scientific proof of their existence plus they create a whole other area of problems for creating life after death.

We have to make a distinction, that has caused thinkers problems down through the ages. The distinction is life after death for the person involved versus life after death for others that know or care about this person. All that is required for others is that someone that looks and acts like the original person be reanimated after the death of this person, usually from the dead body. What is actually required for the actual person? This is a more complicated question but it has a simple answer. All that is required for the person himself is that he experiences consciousness. Everything else is peripheral. If you never experience anything ever again that is the permanent end of you, even if your body continues to function as if you are totally alive and well causing other to think that you are still alive.

The key necessary thing for any scientific theory of life after death for you is producing a consciousness that you experience. If you are not experiencing life or being conscious, this does mean that you are dead. This is because we have periods of time in our lives when we are not conscious such as in comas, using certain drugs (operations), or periods of sleep.
