Singularity of self
More actions
Singularity of self is apposed to the concept of the multiplicity of self that the science of superimmortality proposes. Current science proposes that the self is tied to a singular body and at the death of this body the conscious self permanently ends also. Even supernatural theories that utilize concepts like souls propose a singular self concept. But rather than there being just a body they propose that the self is more than just a body, it is also a soul the can survive the death of one body and either be conscious without a body or later reunite with a different body. Superimmortality proposes that you are the structure and functioning of matter that is different at each point in a person life. Duplicate or approximate this structure and functioning that your body produced at that point in your life and you duplicate or approximate the consciousness that was produced at that point in your life, and you again experience that consciousness. Or if the structure and functioning of this body is different enough but no too different from that of the original's you will be consciously experiencing something different. There can be any number of bodies producing a consciousness that you experience at one time. Thus the concept of the multiplicity of self.
Why do we experience and then believe that we are singular and not multiple? Because our genes usually do not produce a brain that produces a consciousness that exists outside of the conscious moment. If to much brain power is spent producing consciousness existing in the past or predicting the future consciousnesses then the body is less likely to survive. Also the sensepath is broken down into sensemoments. These current sensemoments make us feel that we are in this current moment in time. But at any previous moment in time that sensemoment will be dominating the sense of time and space existence not the current sensemoment.
