Why religious belief systems are a threat to superimmortalism.
Superimmortalism is a science based belief system that does not require a belief in god or gods. However, if God or gods exist and created the reality that we exist in and wanted the better or best type of immortality for conscious beings he would have created superimmortality for conscious beings in his creation. He would not have created the type of immortality that any religion proposes because they are two limited in scope, rationality, coherence, creativity, and beauty for conscious beings. Some thinkers dealing with religious belief systems have the ability to recognize better ideas when they encounter them, as a result superimmortality will eventual be adapted by other religions or they will become obsolete, or dogmatic tyrannies of conscious beings.
The reason that religions are a threat to superimmortalism is that they are dogmatic belief systems that are antagonistic to science and other belief systems that do not agree with their belief system. They are anti-science, likely because they perceive science to be unsupportive of religious and supernatural forms of immortality. Superimmortality changes this because it is completely based on science. For religions to adapt superimmortality as a fundamental principle or dogma of their religion they have to make changes to their religious belief system. Heaven and hell have very different meanings for superimmortality than they do for most religions. There are no souls, gods, or other supernatural entities required for superimmortality to be true. The self, as defined in superimmortalism, is much more than a singular body or life time. it is much more than a singular religious like soul that supposedly exists without an apparent ending. The self of superimmortalism can be considered almost god like because it has the potential for forms of omnibenevolence, omnipotence, omniscience, and omnipresence for each potential ixperiencitness grouping. An ixperiencitness grouping is a group of conscious life times that from an individual's perspective they have, will, or are are experiencing.
According to superimmortality a consciousness that you experience may be created through natural means. This is likely how your current consciousness was created. This process is not going to produce many consciousness that you experience in this universe. This process is often independent of religions. If a religion reduces the amount of people that produce consciousnesses then that religion is going to reduce the likelihood that you will experience one of those consciousness because there will be less random consciousnesses that will likely have your ixperiencitness. Also if a religion believes that the end of the world is coming, this end created by god, they likely will not care about maintaining the earth as a good place to live for people.
Through science and technology the earth can produce more and better conscious lives while sustaining it for millions of years. The more people that exist over a longer time on earth the more likely nature will randomly produce a body with a conscious that you will experience. The more anti-science and controlling a religion is the less likely this is to happen. They do not care, because they believe in a form of immortality that is unrelated to this universe. However, they have no proof that there is a supernatural world where they live forever after death.
Nature's random production of a consciousness that you experience is not the only way that you can experience life after death. The process does not have to be random. The creation of desirable consciousnesses deliberately by any possible sustainable means is more likely to produce consciousnesses that you will experience after death. Religions will not allow this process to occur because they do not believe we can or should play god, so to speak. If and when they see the advantages of superimmortality, I hope they can change their minds.
The most likely production of consciousness that you will experience are consciousnesses deliberately produced and controlled by conscious beings, likely enhanced conscious versions of yourself. Biologically produced consciousness can exist on planets that have the right environments. This is usually a very small surface area on planets. With science and technology creating environments suitable, people with consciousnesses produced biologically could live in many more places.
Since the brain produces consciousness it would be conceivable that brains that are stimulated and maintained by complex machines and computer like devices could create many more consciousnesses in a smaller area with less energy. If you say you would never want this for yourself your present consciousness might already be produced this way.
Electronic brains that have the multiple processing like ability of hundred of billions neurons, likely will be able to produce consciousness. These kind of brains might not produce human consciousness, however, they still might produce a different consciousness that have human ixperiencitnesses. Electronic brains could exist in outer space with space ship bodies. they would not be effected so much by the cold of outer space they can collect light energy for power, be stimulated by environment and reality recreating supercomputer like devices. Your present consciousness might be produced that way now.
Religions at their present state of understanding and development will not allow this to happen. They likely would consider these types of conscious creations abominations. According to religions we are supposed to worship their designated ideas of a god or gods and behave in specific religiously prescribed ways. Religions want to limit conscious diversity. Superimmortality understands that religious consciousnesses are part of the whole continuum of possible consciousnesses and as such can and maybe should be produced. The question is: "How much resources should be used to produced religious consciousnesses?" Religious consciousnesses are often anti-science and anti-change thus they are limited in their problem solving abilities.
If a religion is in change of which consciousness are produced will they be willing to produce enhanced non religious consciousnesses that are needed to perpetuate and sustain consciousnesses through out the universe? If you, through your religious beliefs, are sure that your immortality is produced by your religiously created god, you will not believe that you need to do anything other than what your religion demands, to have life after death and immortality. If however, the science of superimmortality is correct, your religion ends up greatly reducing the chance of you ever experiencing life after death.
